Commencement of the Project “Construction and renovation of domestic water works in Dong Tam A hamlet, Tan Duyet commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province” sponsored by PVI

Implementing PVI’s Sustainable Development Program in 2024, On May 14, 2024, PVI – the project sponsor coordinated with RIC Community Development Initiative Research Center – the project implementation unit and The local government of Tan Duyet commune held a Commencement of the Project “Construction of domestic water supply works in Dong Tam A hamlet, Tan Duyet commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province”.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Duong Thanh Danh Francois – Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of PVI, Mr. Do Tien Thanh – Deputy CEO of PVI – Person in charge of sustainable development, with representatives of PVI’s Divisions, Trade Unions and Youth Unions. Representatives of RIC were attended by Mr. Le Van Hai – director of the center and project implementation staffs. On the local government side, there were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Niem – Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Ca Mau Province, Mr. Bao Chi Phong – Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Dam Doi district, Mr. Cao Chi Nguyen – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Association. Commune People’s Committee and Mr. Kieu Minh Tran – Chairman of Tan Duyet Commune People’s Committee.

Delegates conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of  water supply work for people in Dong Tam A hamlet, Tan Duyet commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province

Mr. Duong Thanh Danh Francois – Vice Chairman of PVI Board of Directors awarded the sponsorship for the domestic water supply work project at Dong Tam A Hamlet for Mr. Le Van Hai – Director of RIC Center and Mr. Kieu Minh Tran – Chairman of Tan Duyet Commune People’s Committee.

Dong Tam A hamlet is a particularly difficult hamlet in an ethnic minority area in Tan Duyet commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province. In recent years, the impact of climate change has led to prolonged drought and saltwater intrusion, the lives of people in Tan Duyet commune in general and Dong Tam A hamlet in particular have encountered many difficulties. According to a report by the People’s Committee of Tan Duyet commune in 2023, Dong Tam A hamlet has 125 households seriously lacking domestic water, they are using sanitary water for daily activities from low-level drilled well water. There is a risk of salt and heavy metal contamination. In the long term, it can affect people’s health, especially children, women and the elderly.

Understanding the above difficulties, PVI sponsored the project with an amount of 500 million VND and coordinated with the RIC Center and local authorities at all levels in Ca Mau to implement the project “Construction of domestic water supply works for People of Dong Tam A hamlet, Tan Duyet commune, Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province”. After conducting survey steps to assess the current situation, the project will be implemented from May 2024 to October 2024. After the project is completed, it will provide enough hygienic water for 118 households in residential areas on both sides of the Mien Canal, Dong Tam A hamlet (with 525 people, 12 poor households, 5 households of people with disabilities and 83 Khmer households), contributing to improving the living conditions of the people here. At the project’s groundbreaking ceremony, PVI and PVI Trade Union presented gifts to representatives of 25 disadvantaged and policy families of Tan Duyet commune (each gift is worth 01 million VND).
